CX

August 30, 2013

I hear her chaos shake the trees outside,
as she dances through the leaves,
then suddenly she’s through my window blinds—
I feel her flowing hair rush by—
I jump up from where I lie,
my eyes snapping open;
but alas,
my guest has left,
and slams the door behind her.

Soon after, when I’m back in bed,
breathing in the fresh perfume she left behind,
I hear footsteps outside—
a sprinting form that I can only see
if my eyes remain closed.
I imagine him racing through the dark,
one foot touching down almost before the other comes up,
his form too fast to see,
darting about erratically;

but when I move to the window,
I see only rain,
and feel only a breeze.
